Owing to its strategic location in the center of Europe, the availability of highly skilled workers, a well-developed infrastructure, an abundance of investment offers, as well as the local authorities' support of investors, the Silesian agglomeration has become the place where many domestic and international companies and enterprises are situating their headquarters and where a great many of them have achieved international success.

ING Bank Śląski:

ING Bank Śląski  is a bank that has expanded its sales network on the territory of the entire country and that has headquarters in Warsaw and Katowice. One of their key business activities is supplying integrated financial services to individual and corporate customers. The fundamental objective of ING Bank Śląski, which arises from its strategy, is developing and strengthening its presence in the Polish banking sector by supplying integrated financial services and preserving its character as a customer-oriented institution.


Tyskie is a beer that is produced in the Tyskie Browary Książęce, which is part of the Kompania Piwowarska concern. It dates back to at least 1613, which makes it one of the oldest beers in Poland. Tyskie Browary Książęce is one of the longest continuously running breweries in Poland that has always operated in the same location. For a dozen or so years, Tyskie has been the most valuable and most popular beer in both retail and gastronomy. 

Tyskie has been honored with the most prestigious awards of the beer industry in the world many times.

  • In 2002 Tyskie won the two most prestigious awards in The Brewing Industry International Awards competition – a gold medal and the Grand Prix (Champion Beer title)
  • In 2005 in Munich (during Drink Tec), Tyskie was once again awarded the Grand Prix (Champion Beer title)
  • In 2011 Tyskie was honored with a silver medal during The Brewing Industry International Awards competition
  • In 2011 Tyskie won a gold medal during the 2011 Monde Selection in Brussels
  • Tyskie won the first position among alcoholic beverages in "Ranking Polskich Marek 2011", which was announced by Rzeczpospolita
  • In 2013 Tyskie won "the Oscar of the brewing industry" in the International Brewing Awards competition

SABMiller (the owner of Kompania Piwowarska) was bought by Anheuser-Bush InBev (AB InBev).  In  2017 a group of eastern European beer brands (including Poland’s Tyskie) was selled by AB InBev to japanese Asahi Group Holdings.

FCA (earlier: Fiat Auto Poland):

FCA has had a passion for  creating cars for more than 100 years. It is a nine-time winner of the Car of the Year competition and a company that emphasizes employee development.FCA is the largest entrepreneur in Silesia. The plant in Tychy was launched in 1975 and owing to many investments, it has become one of the most state-of-the-art car production plants in the world.  

The plant in Tychy manufactures city cars – Fiat 600 and Fiat Panda. Through its extensive sales network, the company sells and services all of the cars that are produced by FCA and Alfa Romeo, as well as light commercial vehicles.

The priorities of FCA in providing benefits for its employees are, e.g., ensuring their comprehensive development, health care and promotion, as well as a broad recreation offer.  The company has a developed a long-standing cooperation with Polish technical institutions of higher education that includes Warsaw University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, the University of Bielsko-Biala through which it awards prizes for graduates and Ph.D. students for the best dissertations.    

i3D S.A.

i3D S.A., which is located in Gliwice, is a company that has conquered the international markets during the short period of time since it was established. Education, industrial engineering, architecture, medicine or the military – those are only some of the areas in which their virtual reality technologies are being applied.

The i3D Group is the home of solutions for international concerns (BP, Boeing, ExxonMobil), Polish local authorities, institutions of higher education (University of Silesia, Medical University of Silesia, Silesian University of Technology) as well as companies (Ceramika Paradyż, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, Tauron).

The i3D group’s activities include doing research in cooperation with businesses, creating and implementing innovative projects, including developmental projects in the field of advanced virtual reality technology (HighTechVR). The Group has won the trust of its customers and has gained the attention of specialists owing to its ability to design tailor-made innovative practical solutions for business. 

In addition to its headquarters in Gliwice, the company also has offices in Nowy Sącz and Houston, Texas in the USA. The company currently employs 60 people; however, because of the positive market feedback that the Polish virtual reality solutions have received, the company recruiting new employees and plans further development.

Opel (PSA Group; earlier: General Motors Manufacturing Poland)

Almost 100 cities competed for the location of the most modern General Motors car factory. In the mid-nineties, General Motors decided to build its factory in Gliwice in Katowice Special Economic Zone. The first model produced was the Opel Astra Classic I and today the Astra Classic II, Zafira, Astra Sedan and the new Astra are produce on the line. The current factory capacity exceeds 200 thousand units per year. The value of the exports of the cars that are produced in this factory was 1.37% of all Polish exports in 2005. The factory has produced 433,5 thousand cars.

To date the company has invested about 700 million EUR in Gliwice. These also included investments under the offset agreement of the Polish government with Lockheed Martin for the purchase of F-16 aircraft. The factory in Gliwice has the most modern production systems, including: just-in-time and just-in-sequence. In recent years GMMP won a prize in the GM internal competition for the best company facility in Europe in terms of production quality.

France's PSA Group has agreed to buy Opel from General Motors in 2017. PSA is the maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars.

Mokate Sp. z o.o. 

The Mokate Group includes nine companies in the country and abroad, and is constantly strengthening its position in the domestic market as well as in exports. Coffees, teas and semi-finished products, among others, are produced in plants in Ustroń and Żory, which are within KSEZ. These products are appreciated not only in the Middle East, but also in the Far East. The achievements of Mokate on the external markets has gained it recognition in Poland. The Minister of Agriculture granted Mokate SA the title of "Outstanding Exporter of the Year 2011" and the Association of Polish Exporters honored Mokate Sp. of o.o Żory with the title "Leader of Polish Export 2011".

Mokate is known for its innovative solutions. The modernization of the production lines in all of its plants, including environmental investments. The Economic Sciences Academy Institute classified Mokate as one of the 21 most innovative companies in Poland ​​in recognition of its current results. Moreover, the prestigious XX Edition of Skills and Competence Laurels, presented Mrs. Teresa Mokrysz, the Supervising Director of the Mokate group, with the "Crystal Laurel" for her contribution to the development of the economy of the Region and Poland.


The Capital Group Farmacol SA is a leading pharmaceutical distributor in Poland. It owes its dynamic development to the involvement of people and the professionalization of all of its operational processes and the management of the company. The consistent implementation of the company's mission is also possible thanks to investments in Zabrze sector of the Katowice Special Economic Zone.

In the years 1999 to 2002, the Company acquired a majority stake, among others, in Cefarms: Kielce, Wroclaw, Szczecin and Warsaw and some other smaller pharmaceutical trade entities, which created the Capital Group. Farmacol serves the entire country, and provides medicines and other pharmaceutical products to several hundreds of thousands of pharmacies and several hundred hospitals.

Digital Core Design

Digital Core Design is a leading Intellectual Property (IP) Core provider and System-on-Chip (SoC) design house. The company was founded in 1999 and since the early beginnings has been considered an expert in IP Core architecture improvements. Wasko S.A.

Wasko S.A. is one of the leading Polish ICT companies in Silesia. The company has been providing its solutions for small and medium enterprises, mainly from the energy, telecommunication and banking industry, as well as public and government administration, for 26 years. It occupies itself with designing and developing software, as well as executing comprehensive services within the range of implementation, maintenance and utilization of IT systems.

As an authorized partner of the world biggest manufactures of hardware and telecommunication equipment, the company provides customers with solutions based on stable and cutting-edge IT technologies. 

In 2006, after a merger with S.A - the first internet portal traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Wasko S.A. became a stock exchange listed company. The annual sale of products and services in previous years exceeded the value of 400 mln zł.

Kopex S.A.

Kopex S.A.  is a company with over 50 years of experience in the mining industry. The main business domain of the company is trade, manufacture of machinery and equipment for the mining industry, as well as services. The Kopex group is present on all most important mining markets of the world - apart from Poland those are, e.g. Russia, China, Australia, RSA, Argentina and European markets. The most fundamental operational segment for Kopex are the segments of machinery  and devices for underground mining. The main company in this segment is Kopex Machinery, which offers: longwall shearers and roadheader, scraper conveyors, underground haulage and transport equipment, as well as coal preparation devices.

Another key production segment are electric and electronic devices. There are two companies which focus on this business field:  Kopex Electric Systems and Kopex Africa. These companies offer, first and foremost, automatic control systems, work out projects aiming at providing power supply to mine systems, flame-proof transformer stations, as well as build heat exchange systems.

Moreover, Kopex S.A. aggregates companies that specialize in manufacturing machinery for heavy industry, construction and deepening of shafts, as well as providing design services for mining construction (HSW Stalowa Wola, Kopex PBSz, Dalbis).

Kopex can boast of cutting-edge and innovative, on a world scale, technological solutions for the mining industry. One of these cutting-edge solutions can be the longwall system for coal seams with a GUŁ-500 cutting and loading head, called Mikrus This construction makes the mining profitable and safe, and the leading-edge solutions included in the project reveal new mining possibilities while preserving effective efficiency even under harsh mining-geological conditions. What is more, these solutions significantly reduce the risk the staff is exposed to, and the full automation improves the comfort of people working at the coalface.

Taking control of Kopex S.A. by TDJ Group (in 2016) completes the largest acquisition in the machinery industry in Poland.
